For the first time, a concert event will be held on the Reno Aces Ballpark field for the inaugural Red, White & Brew, Reno’s Premier Wine, Beer & Music Festival, Aug. 16. Attendees can spend the day sampling more than 40 regional wines and craft brews, while enjoying food, adult games and live music featuring The Novelists, Steel Breeze and Jakes Garage 5.0.

“I wanted to do something local, so that’s why we picked the bands we picked,” said John Sutter, Cumulus Media sales manager. “I didn’t want to get any ol’ band, I wanted the local favorites that had followings.”

The Novelists, a local Reno band, describe themselves as “equally comfortable acoustic or electric, The Novelists showcase cliffhanger storytelling, multiple lead singers and their signature four-part harmonies.” The Novelists are Joel Ackerson — vocals, guitar, mandolin — Eric Andersen — vocals, piano — and Zack Teran — vocals, upright and electric bass.

“I always wanted to do something with the ballpark,” John said. “In Arizona they do a concert in the triple-A ballpark. We started negotiating with Aces management in February and around May we got it approved to do this unique event.”

Enjoy unlimited tastings from wine and beer vendors on the mezzanine and live music playing on the third-baseline of the field. Moon Lighting & Sound will set up a 20-foot stage deployed from a truck to lower the impact on the field. Spectators can sit in the third baseline stands but are not allowed on the field.

This event could set a precedent for future stage shows at the ballpark, said Reno Aces Director of Business Development Brian Moss.

While it’s not the first festival event ever held at the ballpark, Brian said, Red, White & Brew will be the first with this particular combination of music, drinks and high number of attendees.

Beer and wine will be available for unlimited tastings and sale throughout the day starting at 1 p.m., while VIP ticket holders can enjoy all-you-can-eat buffet at Bugsy’s with special seating in the restaurant and premium tastings from high-end wine brands.
